What's Included

What Our Installation Service Covers

When you choose installation (not just curbside delivery), we handle every step from arrival to the final roll. The sod arrives cut fresh that morning and goes in the ground the same day — sod that sits on a pallet for hours loses viability fast, so we move quickly.

01

Fresh-Cut Delivery

Sod is cut to order and delivered to your property on installation day — not pallets that have been sitting in a yard.

02

Professional Laying

Sod is laid in a staggered, brick-pattern layout. Seams are butted tight — not overlapping or gapped — to minimize visible lines and help the lawn grow in uniformly.

03

Rolling for Root Contact

Once laid, the sod is rolled to eliminate air pockets and ensure firm contact with the soil below — critical for root establishment in Jacksonville's sandy ground.

04

Care Instructions

We walk you through the first two weeks of watering — the make-or-break period for new sod. Our new sod care guide covers the full schedule.

Your Responsibility Before We Arrive

Site Prep — What to Do First

Installation goes in on the same day your sod arrives. Your soil needs to be ready when we get there — these are the steps to complete beforehand:

Remove dead grass and debris. Old sod, weeds, and thatch should be killed with herbicide and removed before installation day.

Grade for drainage. The ground should slope away from structures so water doesn't pool under new sod. Level any major low spots.

Loosen the top 2–3 inches of soil. Jacksonville's sandy soil drains fast — light tilling or raking improves root penetration in the first critical weeks.

Clear access to the yard. Gates open, obstacles removed. Sod pallets are heavy and need a clear path from the delivery vehicle to the installation area.

Water the soil the day before. Moist — not saturated — soil is best for new sod rooting. Dry sand pulls moisture from sod roots too quickly.

Honest Comparison

Installation vs. DIY — Which Makes Sense?

Professional Installation Works Best When..

+

Your project is 2,000 sq ft or larger — laying sod is physically demanding and sod dies within hours of cutting if not installed immediately

+

You've had sod fail before — improper rolling or soil contact is the #1 cause of new sod failure, not the sod itself

+

You're on a deadline — new construction, HOA inspection, an event — and can't risk a second attempt

+

Your yard has slopes, curves, or irregular shapes where cutting and fitting sod requires experience

Curbside Delivery Works Well When..

Your project is small — a few pallets in a flat, rectangular backyard with cleared soil

You have an experienced landscaping crew that works with sod regularly and will install same-day

You're confident in your ground prep and have the crew, tools, and time to complete the install in one day

You want to maximize control over the process and have laid sod successfully before

Common Questions

Installation FAQs

How much does sod installation cost in Jacksonville? +
Installation is $250 per pallet, including ground prep — each pallet covers 450 square feet. This is separate from sod, which already includes delivery in its per-pallet price. Use the sod calculator to get your full estimate with sod supply, delivery, and installation combined in seconds.
How long does sod installation take? +
Most residential installations complete in a single day. A standard 3,000–4,000 sq ft yard typically takes 4–6 hours from delivery to completion. Larger projects (10+ pallets) may require two days. The important thing is that all sod goes in the ground the same day it's delivered — cut sod loses viability within hours.
When is the best time to install sod in Jacksonville? +
Jacksonville's subtropical climate allows year-round installation. The ideal window is March through October when soil temperatures are warm enough for rapid root establishment. Summer installations root fastest but require more frequent watering in the first two weeks. See our month-by-month installation guide for the full seasonal breakdown.
Do I need to prepare my yard before sod installation? +
Yes — and it's the most important part. Dead grass and existing vegetation should be killed with herbicide and removed before installation day. The soil should be graded so water drains away from structures, and the top few inches should be lightly tilled. Jacksonville's sandy soil is forgiving, but eliminating air pockets and ensuring firm soil contact is essential for successful root establishment.
How do I care for new sod after installation? +
The first two weeks are critical. Water deeply twice a day for days 1–7, then once daily for days 8–14. Keep foot traffic off the new sod for the first two weeks — it needs time to root without disturbance. Don't mow until the sod is rooted firmly (tug test: if it resists pulling up, it's ready).
